Dean has worked with Deaf Services since 2015 after a previous role with CPL Disability Services. With a Certificate III in Disability Support, Dean says he loves working in the charity industry, where he has the opportunity to communicate with people from all walks of life.
“I started at Deaf Services after I bought a ticket in The Deaf Lottery,” Dean says. “I knew someone who worked there, then I applied and got the job!”
For Dean, it’s a role with a purpose. “I have a friend who is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids, so I know first hand the way Deaf Services can support the Deaf community.”
Dean has completed two Auslan courses with Deaf Services, which allows him to better communicate with his Deaf colleagues, as well as the wider community.
Dean says one of the favourite parts of his job is talking to Deaf Lottery VIP Club Members, man of whom have supported Deaf Services for years. His work philosophy, as it turns out, is quite simple:
“I do my best, work with my team and raise funds to support all Deaf and hard of hearing Australians.”
Dean says he “loves to read the stories” of Deaf Lottery winners, and has had the privilege of selling the winning ticket to not one but two 1st Prize recipients.
The lesson here is clear: when you call The Deaf Lottery, ask to speak to Dean!
